-Jagdeo gives stern warning

A Guyanese has been remanded to a New York prison after he attempted to smuggle over 2,000 grammes of cocaine into the United States.

According to court documents seen by this newspaper, Trevor Walcott attempted to smuggle 2,197.7 grammes of cocaine into that country on September 19.

The documents revealed that on that day Walcott arrived at the JFK International Airport in Queens, New York aboard Caribbean Airlines Flight 424, from Guyana.

He was selected for a customs examination and following routine inspection of his luggage, the Customs and Border Protection inspector noticed that the bottom of his suitcase was unusually thick. A probe of the bottom of the suitcase revealed a white powdery substance, which field-tested positive for the presence of cocaine.

Walcott was then arrested. He appeared in court the following day and was remanded to prison as he is not a US citizen and has no significant ties to that country.
